The reuse and repurpose of old buildings can be not only money-saving but also history-preserving. Some of these beautiful churches turned into modern homes were to be demolished. It might not suit everyone’s tastes but coverting churches into houses have become very popular. Old churches have a distinct architecture style that is both grand and appealing.
Church of Living
Church of Living is a church that was converted into a modern house by Zecc Architechten. The church’s architectural details like high ceilings and stained glass windows have remained while the interior was done in white color scheme with wooden flooring. The modern style interior features a preserved organ and a big cross above the entrance.
St. Jakobus Church
This remodeled abandoned church in Utrecht is another coversion project by Zecc Architects. The beautiful Gothic building was transformed on the inside into a modern home with a white color scheme with preserved architectural details.
Church in South Australia
1850′s Church in South Australia was turned into a beautiful modern dwelling with three bedrooms, kitchen/living/dining area, theatre room, patio and a garden. The eclectic interior design features tile flooring, open kitchen and built-in lighting.
John Knox Church
Williams Boag Architects have remodeled a 1876 church designed by Charles Webb in Australia but have preserved as much as possible from the original structure. This way they’ve managed both preserving the historic building as well as transforming it into a modern home with wood finished interior, stained glass windows, and a modern glass extension.
19th Century Church In Australia
Another 19th century church was converted into home in Australia. A 1866 building has three bedroom and two bathrooms, kitchen dining, lounge bar, study, spa and wine room. There are also a paved patio and a garage among the house’s amenities.
Bonney Avenue Residence
This old church in Brisbane, Australia has been remodeled into a Bonney Avenue Residence by Willis Greenhalgh Architects. The 1867 building was saved from demilotion and transformed into a stylish modern home with the pool, wooden floors and high church ceilings.
Church in Kensal Green, London
This beautiful old church coversion is simply stunning. It is both cozy and beautiful in terms of church architecture. The stylish interior is spacious but homey thanks to big arched windows that provide the home with plenty of light and different wooden floors that divide space between areas.
St. Nicholas Georgian Church
St. Nicholas Church is now a residence to a couple that has renovated the 18th century Georgian building into a home. The exterior has preserved the look of a historic building while the interior was transformed into a living space with high ceilings and wooden finishes.
Howard Park Methodist Church
Howard Park Methodist churchbuillt in 1910 in Toronto has been transformed into Abbey Lofts residences with a four-level ‘penthouse’ in the bell tower. It features two bedrooms and two bathroom, a media room, and a rooftop terrace.
Church In Fitzroy, Australia
The Bible Christian Church of 1860 is a beautiful historic building made of bluestone. The exterior looks untouched while the interior is minimalist designed in white color scheme with wooden flooring. The house has two double bedrooms, a terrace, small courtyard, main bedroom, dressing room and a mezzanine gallery. The house also has some amenities such as workshop, storage room, and a cellar.
Church in San-Francisco
The church in San-Fransisco that overlooks Mission Dolores Park was built in 1909. Now it has been renovated and transformed into a luxurious residence with wood ceiling decor and exposed brick walls.
Church House
We’ve already featured this Church House remodeled into a modern home by Ruud Visser Architects. Overlooking the De Rotte river the 1930 church has preserved its high arched ceilings and windows.
